Course objectives and learning outcomes

The purpose of the Program is:

• To train university graduates and to enrich their special knowledge on the issues of European integration and to provide interdisciplinary training on the functioning of European institutions and the formulation and implementation of European policies, with emphasis on the external policies of the Union (the Mediterranean and Africa, the Balkans and Asia).
• To provide its graduates with a supranational and multinational analysis of European Union policies, in order to enable them to create a strong international academic environment of skills in European studies and a competent professional employment framework in the field.
• To train scientists and professionals who will have a particularly high level of specialized knowledge and skills in European studies so as to be able to meet the needs of the public and private sector, at national and international level. For this purpose, the Program is shaped is such a way so as to provide knowledge to its graduates which will facilitate their subsequent professional employment in the area of European policies and will be a useful tool for the understanding and formulation of national policies that are influenced or dictated by participation in the EU.
• To foster cooperation with the wide European academic community and to promote research in the field of European studies.

In this context, the Program seeks to provide its graduates with a complete picture of the institutional and legal framework of the European Union and its relations with the rest of the world, the policies it adopts and implements, the impact of these policies on the Member States and the dynamic relations that are formed between the EU institutions and the Member States in a multilevel governance framework. Students who graduate from the Program will have:

• an excellent knowledge of European institutions and policies;
• knowledge of research methodology;
• the ability to independently conduct research and write academic work;
• the ability to analyze, combine and interpret information;
• the ability to take decisions quickly and in an informed manner;
• the capacity to apply knowledge in practice;
• The ability to adapt to new situations;

• developed interdisciplinarity and the aptitude to generate new research ideas;
• acquiring social, professional, and ethical responsibility; and
• sensitivity to issues of gender, diversity and interculturalism.
