Course Content:
In this course, students will become familiar with the modern methodological tools required for the strategic and tactical (re-)planning for the policy of public sector bodies especially, as well as with the current socio-economic, technological and political context, in which those in charge are called upon to plan the strategy and policy for regional, sustainable development.
Specifically, the course is structured in the following sections:
– Historical development of regional policy in Greece.
– Presentation of the structure of the EU’s regional development structural policies with emphasis on territorial cooperation. Then we will pay attention to the presentation of the basic programming tools for local and regional development.
– Strategic planning – importance and impact on regional and local development.
– Quality analysis methodologies: PEST and SWOT.
– Quantitative dimension of the design, implementation, evaluation and redesign of the ongoing development policy – the concept, usability and abuse of quantitative indicators.
– Case Study 1: The Importance of Participatory Economic and Development Planning Processes
– Case Study 2: The quadruple helix as a methodological framework and relevant good practices.

Upon successful completion of the course, students will be able to:
– analyze and evaluate the strategic and operational plans of public bodies, in particular of municipalities and regional authorities,
– actively participate in the drafting of economic and development plans,
– anticipate the national and supranational conditions that must be taken into account in a strategic and operational plan.
