At the thresholds of the 20th Century Secularization touched the sensitive nerve of modern Jewish identity. As demonstrated by Kafka`s Letter to Father, by Isaac Kummer the protagonist of Agnon, Pua Rakowsky life, and by Nachman from Feierberg novel, Secularization was painful. This question was not only a product of being emotionally torn, the longing for an element of holiness in life, or the sense of spiritual deprivation suffered by those who had lost their faith and disconnected from religious practice, but also a result of a severe problem in the transmission of cultural heritage from one generation to the next. All these is strongly resonate when we carefully listen to Nachman, frustrated, lost, full with self-hate and feelings of guilt, and yet expressing the paradox of secularization, while expecting the impossible comfort from the same God he once trusted.
